Inspired by characters I've seen on the Meramec River. No one specific, but a mash up of all the characters.

Love On Rivers
She was floating down the river and met him at Shady Beach
Can’t say he was the man of her dreams but clearly within reach.
His front tooth black from a rope swing; he came back and hit the tree
All her teeth are turning brown; she smoked since she was three
And that dragon on his belly grows bigger every year
And somehow she has found a way to wear bottle caps in her ears…that’s right, bottle caps in her ears

Finding love on rivers, gives me the shivers.
but if love, for them delivers, then love will find you too.

That bracelet locked on his ankle… “wrong place at the wrong time”
He says to err is human but escaping is divine
He says she must be an angel God sent down from a cloud
And then she breaks into a song but she sings way too loud
His jorts sag in the water; he's got a metal plate in his head
Because she says that fools rush in where angels fear to tread…
he goes where angels fear to tread

When his mom died he got a new tattoo; so sweet, it’s a dead rose
And everybody noticed ‘cause he got it on his nose
And the only thing she doesn’t like, he doesn’t shave his neck
But she don’t shave her ankles, so I guess, what the heck.
And he also has some whiskers creepin’ damn near to his eyes
He says those whiskers keep away mosquitoes and the flies…
that’s’ gross, mosquitoes and the flies

Her dog runs ‘round unruly; of course it is half pit
I’ve seen it pee on people’s beer before they take a sip
He's got Garth Brooks blaring from his truck; his battery will die
His rear wheels in the river spitting sand in people’s eyes
Now it goes without me saying he wears a wife beater t-shirt
And it is stained with blood and beer from when he hits the dirt…
oh, he often hits the dirt

They’ve got a big old cooler but it doesn’t have a lid
So they have to drink beer fast before the ice melts, God forbid
He looks as mad as a hatter, but he’d never hurt a fly
He’s missing some grey matter, but he’s the sweetest guy
When she topples from her lawn chair he knows just what she needs
He throws her a Jello shot, he’s a good man, guaranteed…
Indeed, he’s a good man, guaranteed

Finding love on rivers, gives me the shivers.
But if love, for them delivers, then love will find you too.
I am a firm believer that love will find you too.
